Jennet Device

In the famous 1612 Pendle witchcraft case, Jennet Device is notorious as the 10-year-old girl whose evidence sent her mother, her brother and five other people to their deaths.

There have been many theories about why Jennet gave her evidence, but the simple answer is that she saw nothing wrong with practising magic. She was proud to be a member of a family who had been using spells and charms to help their community for generations.

Twenty two years later, Jennet was still practising magic, and was herself arrested for witchcraft. Did she survive? The records do not tell us.
